Holes in the Drywall of the Ceiling

Before photo of a few holes in an otherwise nice suburban family dining room ceiling.

One day, Mrs. Richmond over on Boyson Rd. NE of Cedar Rapids, had some plumbing issues with an upstairs bathroom.

When the plumber finished his repairs, he left two holes in the drywall of the dining room ceiling.

The best course of action for this ceiling's drywall repair was to square off the holes and install snug-fitting square patches.

Squaring the Damage and Patching a Tight Fit

Photo of Scott carefully preparing the squared-up hole to place the drywall patch into for the repair. A close-up shot of Scott fitting the drywall patch snuggly into place. A dusty photo of Scott sanding the mudded drywall patch in the dining room ceiling.

Once patched tightly, the spots were tapped, mudded and sanded smooth.

Since it is basically impossible to texture and paint drywall patches to perfectly match what's been done, the whole ceiling had to be redone.

It was a little bit of an endeavor since the ceiling flowed from the dining area to the kitchen and into a couple of hallways.

Texturing and Painting for a Revitalized Ceiling

The kitchen with plastic and paper masking over everything to protect it from the drywall texturing spray. After shot of the freshly painted ceiling in a kitchen area. After shot of one of the adjoining hallway area's ceiling freshly textured and painted.

After we masked off the perimeter, the old texture was scraped off before applying the new orange-peel style texture to the ceiling.

We gave the texture about a day to dry out, then sprayed the entirety with two coats of white ceiling paint by Sherwin-Williams.

As we were wrapping up the job by taking down the plastic masking and cleaning up the affected rooms, Mrs. Richmond was so happy with having a beautifully pristine ceiling again that she surpised us with submarine sandwiches for everybody! Yum!
