Kerndt Brothers Bank at 600 Boyson Rd. NE, in Cedar Rapids had a new tenant for their upstairs offices who wanted to renovate three areas by switching from wallpaper to painted walls. So, the first thing to do was to remove all of the wallpaper. |
The wallpaper used in the bank was of a commercial grade, so it came off in two layers. We used paper ligers to produce small pinholes in the surface of the wallpaper at first, then let the steamers do all the hardwork breaking down the glue. The paper could then be more-or-less easily peeled off, and we scraped or dabbed off a majority of the remaining residue. |
A product called Gardz by Zinsser was applied to the surface of the wall after the wallpaper was removed. This helped with the rough areas to pin down the flayed edges of the wallpaper remnants that were stuck in the cracks. |
After the latex primer was applied, the imperfections in the walls' surfaces were a lot easier to see.At this point, the spots that needed work got mudded and sanded. |
The big room also included a large hallway, as well as a smaller room. The small room only had to be painted since there was no wallpaper there. |
A conference room was also included in the job, and involved the same steps as the big room in wallpaper removal, prep, repair and painting. We started working on the conference room after the first two rooms were done; the bank also asked us to paint the little kitchen while we were at it. |
All of the walls were given two coats of Vantage interior paint with an eggshell finish by Diamond Vogel. The repose gray paint on the walls is actually a color the tenant liked by Sherwin Williams, (color code SW7015B). |
